The Cold War really kicked technology and space exploration into high gear. With the U.S. and the Soviet Union in a race to prove who was the best, they poured tons of money into research and development. This led to some amazing breakthroughs, like the launch of Sputnik by the Soviets, which freaked everyone out and pushed the U.S. to get serious about NASA and eventually land on the moon. It was all about showing off their tech and military might, and we ended up with a ton of innovations that we still use today.
