When sanding and finishing wood, start with a coarser grit sandpaper to remove any rough spots, and then gradually move to finer grits for a smooth finish. Always sand in the direction of the grain to avoid scratches. After sanding, clean off the dust with a damp cloth before applying your finish, whether it’s stain, varnish, or oil. Make sure to apply thin coats and sand lightly between them for the best results!
