"Baking powder and baking soda are both leavening agents, but they work a bit differently. Baking soda is pure sodium bicarbonate, and it needs an acid to activate it, like vinegar or lemon juice. On the other hand, baking powder has baking soda in it, plus an acid, so it can work on its own. Basically, if a recipe calls for baking soda, you usually need to add something acidic, but with baking powder, you're good to go!"
