To properly season your cast iron skillet, start by giving it a good wash with soap and water to remove any factory coating. Then, dry it completely. Next, apply a thin layer of vegetable oil or flaxseed oil all over the skillet, inside and out. Make sure to wipe off any excess oil. Preheat your oven to around 450°F (232°C) and place the skillet upside down on the middle rack, with a baking sheet on the lower rack to catch any drips. Bake it for about an hour, then turn off the oven and let the skillet cool down inside. This will create a nice non-stick surface! Just remember to repeat this process every now and then to keep it in top shape.
