A good way to figure it out is to check the plant's growth habits. Perennials usually come back year after year and might even get bigger each season, while annuals only last for one growing season. You can also look up the specific herb online or check a gardening book to see its classification.

You can usually tell by how they behave. If your herbs die off in the winter and you have to replant them every spring, they're probably annuals. But if they stick around and pop back up each year, then you’ve got yourself some perennials. A quick Google search can also help clear things up!
